The Dennis Mickleburgh Open Panel Competition

Yesterday was a day full of photography at Upminster Camera Club. The morning was a feast of information from the informative and entertaining "Gavin Hoey" and the afternoon saw some stunning work from all over the south east in the form of panels of 6 prints entered into
"The Dennis Mickleburgh Open Panel Competition"
The judge "Ken Scott ARPS" deliberated all morning to select the final 45 from the 70 + panels entered, and during the afternoon sessions provided a concise and educational critique to the audience of all the selected panels.

His final selection was.

1st Place  "PAGB Gold Medal"

The Art and Tragedy of Mark Rothko
Jenny Clark

2nd Place "PAGB Silver Medal"

Tim Mears

3rd Place "PAGB Bronze Medal"

 Tuscan Delight
Loraine French

The UCC committee and the club members that worked hard all day went home exhausted but happy that this the second "Dennis Mickleburgh Open Panel Competition" was as equally if not more successful than the first and went off without a hitch.
Well done all of know who you are.....!

The Winning panel and decription displayed with the consent of Jenny Clark.

Mark Rothko was an abstract painter who used colour to describe mood.

His earlier works were bright, but became darker as his mental state deteriorated. His last paintings before his suicide consisted of  only black and grey.

The Tate gallery in London has a permanent room exclusively showing his work.
